Design proposals for the steel and glass fabrication of proposed 9 metre high memorial sculptures produced by Lucy Gannon / Broadbent Studio/ Jonathan Hitchen, Graphic Design. Artwork created by alumnus Jacob Phillips as part of his BA(Hons) Illustration with Animation final year.

The generation of archives and community engagement workshops that started this whole project off, were were made possible by former academic Jenny Walker and project originator BA(Hons) 3D Design alumnus, Lauren Murphy. It is down to the persistence and determination of Lauren that this award winning project is now, after five years coming to a successful conclusion.  Funding approaching 40k has been achieved by Lauren to erect a permanent memorial to the miners of Bradford Pit in East Manchester.

(My own role in this project was during the initial stages of student engagement and in maintaining momentum in recent years, where funding and external issues created a series of obstacles that threatened to leave all the hard work on the drawing board).

I am grateful for the support of curators of the Radical Response exhibition at Benzie Gallery for enabling this work to be showcased as part of the IASDR 2019 exhibition.
